The seminar “ Legal DNA”, an irrefutable proof”
The Justice Department held the first seminar for the academic year 2012-2013, with topic “Legal DNA, an irrefutable proof”.Invited as a speaker in this seminar was the Criminalist expert Elson Kanavace and students from the first and the second year of Law Department participated with their questions. The seminar intended the equipment of the students of the Law Department with information connected with the Crime field, based on the analysis of DNA proofs.
In the seminar the importance of the DNA was discussed in connection to the process of proving the innocence of the author of the criminal act and the usage of technical and laboratory methods in their fight against crime. The specialist of the Central Laboratory of Crimes transmitted the students information on the characteristics of DNA and the fact that no human being has the same genetic material, which makes it a irrefutable proof in identifying the guilty in the court. A detailed explanation was given on gathering methods , documentation , storage of DNA proof in such a way that they fully complete the legal and scientific conditions to be accepted in an investigative process and in court.
In the end of the seminar, facts were reported on the role that DNA has played in solved cases from the Albanian justice during the recent years. The students showed interest on the topic by making questions to Mr. Kanavace on how the Central Laboratory of Crimes operates.
