Bedër as a Partner of Observatory of Local Autonomy
For the first time, Albania is represented in the Observatory of Local Autonomy (OLA).
Having been created on January 28, 2008, (OLA) is a network of researchers and civil society, all of them being qualified in the study of local autonomy and the administration of local power. The network joins 64 research teams, one or more than one from each member state of European Union, and Moldavia, Montenegro, Serbia, Russia, Turkey as well, and, recently, even Albania.
Higher Education Institution “Hëna e Plotë” Bedër is the only institution that represents Albania in this network, whose aim is the study of local autonomy, multilevel governing, the management of local power, and other issues deriving from these concepts.
Bedër was represented in this network by Mr. Ferdinand Xhaferraj, the Head of Law Department that presented a national report on the local governing of Albania at the last symposium organized by OLA in “Comenius” University in Bratislava- Slovakia. This presentation was highly evaluated by the General Assembly of Observatory of Local Autonomy.
Higher Education Institution “Hëna e Plotë” Bedër Graduates the Third Generation of its Students
Higher Education Institution “Hëna e Plotë” Bedër organized the graduation ceremony of Bachelor and Master Program students for the academic year 2015-2016.
Despite the numerous students that threw their caps in the air ending thus a very important milestone in their lives, the Chairman of Muslim Community of Albania Mr. Skënder Bruçaj, the Rector of Epoka University Prof. Dr. Güngör Turan, many personalities from the academic world, representatives of public and private institutions and familiars and relatives of the graduates attended the ceremony.
This ceremony coincides with the 5th anniversary of the foundation of Bedër a cycle which counts a number of academic achievements and in research.
Regarding this we mention the organization of dozens of national and international conferences, open lectures that hosted many personalities from various fields, the organization of seminars in different contemporary subjects, and a considerable number of extracurricular activities aiming the professional qualification of the students.
A remarkable part of these 5 years are also exchange programs or professional practices that have accompanied the students during each academic year mentioning here the representation of Albania in international competitions and projects.
In his welcoming speech, the Rector of Bedër University Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana, having welcomed the attendees, expressed his enthusiasm about the achievements of the institution so far emphasizing thus the graduation of generations capable for the labor market in Albania and beyond.
“Everyone knows that our country is not amongst the largest and strongest countries in the world, and, also, we are all aware that it is not the ideal place to live a life in high standards, as compared with Europe or developed states. However, I would like to say to you that you should be confident that this country needs you; it needs professional young people that have a virtuous character. Therefore, whether you think to work or study abroad, you should plan to turn back to contribute, to give as much as you could to our Albania. Only in this way it will become a better place.” – said he.
The ceremony proceeded with the addressing of students of excellence and the foreign students. In the end the students went to the podium in order to throw their graduation caps in the air.
This institution accounts around 400 graduated students in bachelor programs, 136 of which are the graduates of this year and, also, there are 90 students in all master programs.
Bedër Awards Mr. H. Selim MUÇA with the Title “Doctor Honoris Causa”, Honorary Chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania
Higher Education Institution “Hëna e Plotë” Bedër organizes the awarding ceremony of the title “Doctor Honoris Causa” to Mr. H. Selim MUÇA, Chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania during the period 2004-2014.
This activity joint together representatives from religious communities in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia, representatives of diplomatic organs situated in Tirana, numerous representatives from media, and academicians and various representatives of Albanian culture and art.
The Rector of Beder University, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana in his welcoming speech highly honored the personality of the Chairman of the Muslim Community of Albania about his values and contribution in the promotion of faith, harmony and interfaith tolerance in our country. Also, he mentioned the contribution of Mr. Muça in the foundation of the institution that he represents.
He said “It was his vision, goals and persistent work that set up this higher education institution in 2011 and the Department of Islamic Sciences as part of it, by enabling the complete education within Albania to all the young generation that wish to be educated in the field of Islamic theology. I am sure that this contribution is and will continue to be part of the history of our institution”.
Whereas, the Chairman of Muslim Community of Albania Mr. Skënder Bruçaj in his welcoming speech emphasized the collaboration of Muslim religious communities in Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia over years. According to him, the product of such a close collaboration between these institutions is further developing the involvement of Islam in education, culture and other areas of the society. He evaluated Mr. Muça as a missionary that must be considered an example for his contribution with regard to that.
He concluded “It is a great honor to me to lead the Muslim Community of Albania following two prominent personalities of Islam such as Hafiz Sabri Koçi and H. Selim Muça”.
The World Dedebaba of Bektashi Dede Edmond Brahimaj and the Chairman of Islamic Community of Kosovo Mr. Naim Tërnava had their word in the honor of the personality of the Honorary Chairman of the Muslim Community as well. They shared precious memories of the collaboration between the institutions they represent and Muslim Community due to the leading of H. Selim Muça.
Then, Prof. Assoc. Dr. Rahim Ombashi read to the attendees the reviewer for the academic title "Doctor Honoris Causa".
By the end of the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Ferdinand Gjana gave to the Honorary Chairman of Muslim Community of Albania Mr. Hajji Selim Muça the award "Doctor Honoris Causa" motivated by his outstanding contribution in the establishment of the values of faith and strengthening coexistence and harmony between different faiths in Albania.
Winners of the Third Creative Youth English Essay Contest announced
The Department of English Language and Literature in Bedër University in collaboration with the British Council in Albania organized the awards ceremony for the Third Creative Youth English Essay Contest (YCEEC).
After 3 successful editions of this platform, the contest confirms its objective of promoting youth reading, expressing and creativity again by evaluating the perfection of the phrase and imagination development.
In his welcoming speech the Head of the Department of English Language and Literature Dr. Mahmut Terci admitted that the current students are the prospective politicians. By promoting their organizational skills and by sharing their experiences with one another, they show their potential in and abroad the country every day.
The topic of this edition was: “One of the basic human rights is to reach up-to-date information any time they need. Still, such necessity arises somewhat excessively in today`s world resulting in adverse effects of irrelevant, redundant and low-value information also known as Information Pollution, which might have a negative effect on our daily activities and manifest itself in broad and various formats.”
Thus, the pupils: Joana LAME, Pegi KOÇI and Fiona MANJA won the first, second and third prices respectively and were awarded with an iPad each. Whereas, other participants were awarded with certificates of participation.
First International Virtual Conference in English Language and Literature
The Department of English Language and Literature in Beder University in collaboration with British Council in Tirana and International BURCH University in Sarajevo organized the second international conference in English Language and Literature.
This conference, being a virtual one, was the first of its kind and it joint together a considerable number of academics and students from all around the world.
Various referrers from United States of America, Malaysia, Albania, Georgia, Macedonia and Nigeria presented their articles related to different aspects of English language and literature through a live broadcast via Skype. While the participating students that followed the presentations in the same way made the conference more interactive via their questions and comments.
The Chairperson of this conference, Dr. Mahmut Terci, having thanked all the participants for their attendance in this activity expressed his enthusiasm about the fact that English language and literature, currently being an object of study, creates through innovative technologies the space for a rapid development in the field.
Conference proceeded further in several sessions. Among the topics covered so far by the referees are: "Redefining Culture And Literature In Today's World Of Science ", "Using Instructional Technologies In ELT", "Armoury For The Language Teacher: Action Research" and others.
