The relationship between media and politics, one of the issues discussed by the Albanian public after years ‘90, was the main topic of student conference "Media and Politics", organized by the Department of Communication Sciences at the University “Hëna e Plotë” (Bedër). At the opening session of the conference were present important personalities from the academics, politics and media representatives, who praised the work of the conference as a positive step in academic forming of the students.
The conference was welcomed by the Rector of the Polytechnic University, Prof. Dr. Jorgaq Kaçani, Rector of the European University of Tirana, Prof. Assc. Dr. Tonin Gjuraj, First Secretary and Head of Political Section of the Delegation of the European Union in Tirana, Mr. Clive Rumbold and the journalist Blendi Fevziu.
Head of the Department of Communication Sciences, Mr. Ramdan Cipuri, chairmen of the conference, emphasized the importance of research in the field of media and politics. Mr. Rmadan Cipuri, said that the first student conference on "Media and politics" aimed at providing an academic context for the discussion of issues related to communication, social problems etc.., in order to develop theoretical and practical perspective to students and at educating profession-specific competencies, and their familiarity with the latest developments in the field of communication sciences.
While, the Rector of the University,Dr. Ferdinand Gjana, in his address briefed to the participants the mission and achievements of university. Rector said that "the conference on "Media and Politics" takes special values in terms of the Albanian society, where the media is a powerful tracking of information. Students, he continued, have the opportunity to reveal their ideas, to face reality, to develop scientific debate on the media, to analyze the development of the media, to adopt scientific breakthroughs, increasing the confrontational quality, gaining new trend and contributing to scientific thinking ".
Chairwoman of the Committee on Education and Means of Public Information, Valentina Leskaj said that the discussions on the relationship between media and politics in a student conference has a special significance. She said that despite the relationship between politics and media in years and difficulties,there is seen e progress in this area. Mrs.Leskaj said that an important point is the end of the Media Commission of the audiovisual media law, viewing it as an important process.
Other participants assessed taking such an initiative and emphasized the necessity of raising the academic level and increasing cooperation between Albanian universities.
