    Integrated Second Cycle Study Program: Master of Science in Law

    a) About the Program
    The integrated second-cycle study program, "Master of Science in Law," provides education for all students interested in building their professional careers in both the public and private sectors in the field of law. This program offers students the opportunity to prepare for active and effective participation as professionals in legal consulting, advocacy, decision-making, and other professional spheres, whether in the criminal, public, or civil domains. Students are encouraged to study law and legal institutions as integral parts of social and politico-economic systems.

    b) Mission
    The mission of this department is to prepare qualified lawyers and future leaders who contribute to the advancement of justice and societal well-being. Graduates will be capable of holding positions in judicial bodies, prosecution offices, advocacy, state administration, various state power institutions, and the private sector. The department aims to be an active institution focused on solving legal, social, economic, and political issues, both domestic and international, of particular interest to society.

    c) Vision
    The vision of the department is to present students with a comprehensive program that equips them with the necessary academic and professional knowledge in the field of law, based on principles of professional ethics. The program aims to develop critical thinking among students and help them understand the importance of their role in society. To this end, the integrated second-cycle study program in law is designed to prepare future specialists in law, qualified in civil, criminal, administrative, commercial, and procedural law, both nationally and internationally. Students will acquire the interpretive skills needed to solve problems in legal implementation, serving public institutions and businesses domestically and abroad.

    d) Average Duration of Studies
    As specified in the program's regulations, the normal duration for completing the second-cycle law studies is ten semesters. The maximum study period is double the normal duration.

    e) Number of ECTS Credits (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System)
    The integrated second-cycle study program, "Master of Science in Law," comprises 300 ECTS credits, as outlined in the curriculum proposed by the Department of Law, approved by the Faculty Council, and endorsed by the Academic Senate of the “Bedër” University College.

    f) Language of Instruction
    The language of instruction for the integrated second-cycle study program, "Master of Science in Law," is Albanian. However, considering international developments in the field of law and Albania's aspirations for European Union membership, subjects with international and European focus may also be taught in English.

    g) Degree Title
    The title of the degree awarded to students completing the first-cycle law programs is specified in the program regulations. Upon completing the integrated second-cycle study program, students will be awarded the "Master of Science in Law" degree.

    h) Employment Opportunities
    The knowledge provided by this program is designed to align with both private and public market demands, for positions requiring specialized legal expertise in domestic, international, and European law. The range of job positions is diverse, offering multiple employment opportunities.

    The program aims to prepare professionals for a diversified labor market, from local to regional, European, and international levels. Employment opportunities include:

    • Legal specialists in central and local government

    • Legal advisors in private companies

    • Legal specialists in international organizations domestically and abroad, specializing in international and European law

    • Legal advisors or consultants in public, banking, arbitration, and other legal services

    • Lawyers, notaries, and qualifications for free profession examinations

    • Research/teaching assistants in higher education institutions in Albania and abroad

    The integrated second-cycle study program qualifies students to participate in state examinations for free professions and for magistrate school.

    i) Objectives of the First-Cycle Law Program
    The objectives of this program are to provide general education in the field of legal sciences, offering disciplines of basic, characterizing, integrative, and specialized nature, combined with studies in international political and economic sciences, with a special focus on EU law and policies. The program aims to provide a general education in legal sciences, combining national, regional, European, and international law.

    The program’s objectives include:

    • Offering students general knowledge supported by foundational disciplines with historical and philosophical aspects and deepening this knowledge in subsequent academic years with a focus on the law degree profile.

    • Preparing students for successive cycles of study while addressing the challenges they will face in their professional careers.

    • Providing students with analytical skills and fundamental legal concepts, terminology, theories, and procedures to address theoretical and practical issues in the field of law.

    • Integrating teaching, research, and services to enrich the learning experience by delivering the latest developments in jurisprudence science and practice.

    • Offering students professional experience through practical courses and legal clinics, enabling participation in resolving judicial conflicts.

    • Fostering collaboration with all public and private institutions that are integral parts of the legal system, both nationally and internationally.

    • Equipping students with skills to adapt to the labor market in various fields of international public and private law.

    • Ensuring competitiveness at the local, regional, European, and global levels through qualified academic staff, debates, discussions on legal issues, and access to a rich, contemporary legal literature.

    • Familiarizing students with international and European law and demonstrating solid knowledge of international legal principles and the applicability of law across different legal systems.

    j) Curriculum
    The curriculum is organized over 5 years, 10 semesters, with 32 weeks per year, including examination weeks. The program consists of 300 ECTS credits, distributed across 60 ECTS credits annually.

    The main forms of teaching include lectures, seminars, and coursework, with examinations for each subject and a diploma thesis upon completing all exams. The 5-year study program comprises 35 modules, organized into compulsory and elective courses.

    The teaching schedule is structured to balance learning elements and distribute the student workload rationally, ranging from 20 to 24 hours per week.

    Courses are classified into two main groups: compulsory and elective.

    The curriculum tables are organized as follows:

    • Year I: 8 courses/12 modules

    • Year II: 8 courses/12 modules, including 1 elective

    • Year III: 5 courses/10 modules

    • Year IV: 7 courses/11 modules

    • Year V: 6 courses/11 modules, including 2 electives

    Annual In-Auditorium Workload

    • Year I: 600 hours/year

    • Year II: 670 hours/year

    • Year III: 680 hours/year

    • Year IV: 685 hours/year

    • Year V: 495 hours/year
      Total: 3,130 hours in the auditorium and 4,370 hours of independent work.

    Annual Out-of-Auditorium Workload

    • Year I: 930 hours/year

    • Year II: 870 hours/year

    • Year III: 960 hours/year

    • Year IV: 930 hours/year

    • Year V: 860 hours/year
      Total: 4,550 hours/year

    The curriculum includes corresponding credits for each subject or formative activity. Courses are grouped into formative activities labeled A to E, as follows:

    • Foundational disciplines: A – 60 credits (20%)

    • Characterizing disciplines: B – 161 credits (54%)

    • Interdisciplinary and elective courses: C – 45 credits (15%)

    • Other formative knowledge: D – 22 credits (7.3%)

    • Diploma Thesis and Final Examination: E – 12 credits (4%)

    Each course includes its syllabus with relevant elements: course/module title, year/semester offered, instructor qualifications, the role of the course in the overall student education, the knowledge and skills provided, topics covered in theoretical and practical learning, workload in and out of the auditorium, ECTS credits, teaching formats and methods, evaluation forms, and required and supplementary literature in compliance with legal requirements.
